The latest addition to my juicer collection is my Hurom Slow Juicer. As far as juicing goes, the vertical masticating style of juicer is fast becoming my favorite. The Hurom Slow Juicer is pretty much identical to the Omega VRT350HD, although the Omega machine comes with a superior warranty (10 year vs 1 year). Click here compare the prices of these units on Amazon. In the video below, I demonstrate just how easy this type of unit is to use.

Using my Hurom Slow Juicer

Compared to my Omega J8006 juicer, I don’t have to cut the pieces of fruit and vegetables up so much to fit them into the machine. This helps to bring down the total juicing time. The other thing I love is that the larger feed chute and bigger auger makes it so much easier for the produce to fall into the juicer. In other words, it is pretty much self feeding! You can see in the video above that I never had to use the pusher at all when I made a water melon juice. The only times I have to use the pusher is when I don’t chop things up small enough to fit or if I’m juicing soft leafy vegetables without any stalks.

The machine can get jammed. If I try to feed too many harder items, like carrots, through at once, it just stops. To get round this, I just it Reverse then turn it On again. I’ve learned that it’s important to juice at the speed of the juicer rather than try to ram things in as quickly as possible. If you’re into all out speed, then you’d be better off with a centrifugal juicer. I’m more into masticating juicers myself since they have a wider range of uses and as far as I’m concerned, they make a better tasting juice.

Hurom Slow Juicer Warranty

Without question, the warranty on this juicer is worse than the one that comes with the Omega VRT350HD machine. In my case, I didn’t have the option to get hold of an Omega in Japan. To be honest, I was very pleasantly surprised when I found out I could get the Hurom machine so the shorter warranty was the least of my concerns.

The interesting thing is that both of these juicers are actually made at the exact same factory in Korea, it’s just their branding that’s different. This is one of the main reasons why I’m not too concerned at all about a shorter warranty. I figure that if Omega can offer a 10 year warranty, then they must be pretty confident that their parts will last at least that long. Therefore, even with a much shorter length of coverage, I’m getting the same high quality components. If I lived in the States, I really don’t know which model I’d choose. The Omega has the longer warranty but is a bit more expensive, the Hurom comes at a cheaper price but has the shorter warranty. It really just comes down to your own position about how much risk you’re prepared to accept.

Remember though, the warranty only covers us against manufacturer’s defects. So if you start banging your juicer with a hammer or throwing it around the room, that won’t be covered no matter the length of your warranty!

The Breville 800JEXL Juice Fountain Elite is one of the most popular centrifugal juicers currently available. The Omega J8006 is, in my opinion, the best horizontal single auger masticating juicer on the market at present. What I am to show today is that both of these units have certain strengths. Which is the best juicer? These days, I’m more interested in masticating juicers as they help me to make the types of juice recipes that I most enjoy, green juices!

In the video above, I compare the performance of both of these machines with 4 oz. of dino kale each. As you’re able to see for yourself, the Omega J8006 is the clear winner in terms of juice yield. It is common knowledge that horizontal masticating juicers are top performers when it comes to juicing leafy green vegetables. By watching this video, you’ll be able to see just much more effective this machine is.

In the second video I demonstrate just how fast the Breville Juice Fountain Elite is, in comparison to the Omega J8006. When I first started juicing, the speed of centrifugal juicers was very appealing to me. They are very easy to operate and quick to clean up too. Perhaps I would not have got the juicing bug had I started out with a more complicated machine.

You can check the price on Amazon for these two juicers by clicking the image links on the right hand side of the screen.

This smoothie is soooo good. I made almond nut milk the day before making the actual smoothie in the picture.

Almond Nut Milk Recipe

2 cups of almonds (soaked for about 10 hours)

a handful of dates (soaked in 1 cup of water overnight)

I gave the almonds a good rinse after their soaking then blended them up with 5 cups of water. Next I strained the mixture using a nut milk bag. While I was doing this I washed out the blender. Then poured the smooth nut milk and date/water mixture into the blender and blended again.

I love nut milk so just had to drink some there and then but bottled the rest and added a vanilla pod and left it until the next day…which is when I made the smoothie in the picture.

Smoothie Recipe

1 pint of almond nut milk

4 bananas

Whizzed up in a blender. Sort of like bananas and cow’s milk, but much nicer

[EDIT: This smoothie is so rich. If you drink too much, you might start to feel sick! - Be Careful!]
