About the Juice Fiend
My name is Andy. I am the Juice Fiend.
On this site I discuss the health benefits of drinking fresh fruit and vegetable juice, write juicer reviews (as well as blender reviews) and discuss many of my favorite juice recipes. My story is remarkably ordinary. I have not lost vast amounts of weight through a juice diet or anything like that. To be honest I haven’t lost any weight. But at 185cm and 68Kg I have no intention of doing so. Juicing isn’t just for “un-healthy” people. It’s for everyone!
What I have found out through personal experience is that by drinking just one or two fresh fruit and vegetable juices per day I feel much more energetic, alert and enthusiastic every day. Drinking juice is not some kind of wonder diet that can cure cancer, bring about world peace and end global poverty. What it is though is just a simple way to help us vastly improve the quality of our life by taking baby steps to better health.
Research supports my own philosophy that a juicing lifestyle is beneficial to our long-term health. A study titled, Vegetables, fruit, and cancer prevention: a review. by Steinmetz and Potter states:
The evidence for a protective effect of greater vegetable and fruit consumption is consistent for cancers of the stomach, esophagus, lung, oral cavity and pharynx, endometrium, pancreas, and colon. The types of vegetables or fruit that most often appear to be protective against cancer are raw vegetables, followed by allium vegetables [e.g. garlic, onion, leeks, chives, scallions], carrots, green vegetables, cruciferous vegetables, and tomatoes. Substances present in vegetables and fruit that may help protect against cancer

HI Andy
I wanted to thank you for your reviews about “which juicer to choose” It was just what I needed and I found it very helpful.
I have been using an ordinary juicer and realise the benefits of juicing, but now feel I need a masticating juicer. I am still a novice and found the information on juicing a bit overwhelming, but your article steered me through stormy waters and I just wanted to say thank you.
Kind regards
Paddy (Patricia)

Hi Paddy,
I’m glad you found the information on my site useful. Masticating juicers seemed a little bit complicated to me before I got my own. They’re actually really easy to use, although chopping up the fruit into smaller pieces is necessary. The thing is, there are loads more things we can make with them, e.g. homemade nut butters and really tasty, 100% fruit, frozen desserts. I’m in the process of expanding my collection of juicing videos on Youtube so keep a look out: http://www.youtube.com/thejuicefiend

Hi Andy,
What can you say about Jack Lalaine’s juice extractor?

Andy
Hi Melanie,
I’ve never used a Jack LaLanne juicer myself. There is a funny video on Youtube that you might enjoy watching
